NATURAL HABITAT DEVELOPMENT  - TREE PLANTING

Wildlife Support Habitat

The Natural Habitat Development Project is aimed at improving the natural habitat of Chaine's Wood to encourage red squirrels, and other wildlife, back into the wood. The BBG was awarded a tree pack by the Woodland Trust. In the ‘wildlife’ themed tree pack the BBG received oak trees plus trees which are great sources of food for wildlife – hawthorn, rowan, blackthorn, silver birch and hazel. In total 105 trees have now been planted in the wood. Unfortunately, there will be a lot of competition for water and nutrients as there is a considerable amount of ivy growing and spreading on the ground throughout the wood. Out of the 105 trees planted, let's hope a considerable number survive and grow into mature trees thereby attracting more wildlife to the wood.
